Another Sunday, another set of prompts brought to us by Heather of Just Geeking By! This week’s prompts were spawned by today being both National Cherry Cobbler Day and National Walnut Day, along with a bunch of other National food “holidays” this week, so Heather decided it obviously had to be a food-related question week! Be sure to check out the rest of May’s prompts if you’re interested in joining, or start planning for June’s prompts!

Food

If you could have any fictional food item become reality, what would it be?

Probably some of the confectioneries that show up in the Harry potter novels. Probably the chocolate frogs, even though I have to be in the right mood for chocolates.

What is your favorite food moment/scene?

I don’t know that it’s my favorite, but one that always sticks with me is the scene where Edmund meets the White Witch for the first time in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. But my favorite food movie would absolutely have to be Tortilla Soup.

What fictional restaurant would you like to visit?

The Double R Diner is absolutely my first choice. Need some of Norma’s cooking, after all. Especially her pie. Yeah, it’s a Twin Peaks thing.

What is the most decadent dessert you’ve seen in a fandom?

To be fair, I’m honestly not sure that I pay much attention to food in fandoms. So I can’t say a specific dessert has called to me. I guess I’m going to have to go with Norma’s pie as mentioned above, really.

What is the most disgusting food item you’ve seen?

Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Bean. I’m sure there’s grosser things, but the fact that people have tried to replicate them for jollies just absolutely grosses me out.

What is your favorite fandom-inspired recipe/food item?

Oh goodness, I’m not sure! I love seeing what various creatives come up with, and have even attempted some myself from WoW and Harry Potter.

Statistical Which Character Personality Quiz https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/04/22/statistical-which-character-personality-quiz/ https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/04/22/statistical-which-character-personality-quiz/#respond Wed, 22 Apr 2020 14:00:00 +0000 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/?p=1392 Full Results

I first saw this floating around Facebook, but didn’t pay much mind to it until I saw it floating around the blogosphere. Endalia was kind enough to link it in the Blaugust Discord, so I saved it for a rainy day. Today is that rainy day.

You can take the personality test for yourself here. You can find my full results here. I’m only going to post my top 10 from the full results, and then dive into some of my favorite fandoms!

  1. Willow Rosenberg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer): 79%
  2. Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter): 75%
  3. Donna Moss (The West Wing): 75%
  4. Kaylee Frye (Firefly + Serenity): 75%
  5. Alice Cullen (Twilight): 75%
  6. Daniel Jackson (Stargate SG-1): 74%
  7. Rachel Chu (Crazy Rich Asians): 73%
  8. Abby Sciuto (NCIS): 73%
  9. Samwell Tarly (Game of Thrones): 72%
  10. Pam Beesly (The Office): 72%

I’m sad that certain fandoms aren’t in the top ten, but I’m going to see what my percentages look like as we delve into them specifically… in alphabetical order. Though, I’m confused why some fandoms show up in the big list (e.g.: NCIS, Stargate SG-1), but don’t show up in the Universe drop down.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

  1. Willow Rosenberg: 79%
  2. Rupert Giles: 65%
  3. Buffy Summers: 58%
  4. Xander Harris: 55%
  5. Angel: 47%

Willow was always my favorite character in Buffy, with Cordelia as a close second, so I’m happy that she ended up being my highest in Buffy, and I suppose overall, as well. But ugh, Xander. At least it’s only 55%.

Firefly + Serenity

  1. Kaylee Frye: 75%
  2. Hoban Washburne: 71%
  3. Inara Serra: 69%
  4. Derrial Book: 67%
  5. River Tam: 59%

Kaylee and Inara were always characters I identified with the most in Firefly. I love all the characters, but I very much gravitate towards Kaylee as someone I could see myself being. So I feel it’s fairly accurate!

Harry Potter

  1. Luna Lovegood: 75%
  2. Ginny Weasley: 69%
  3. Arthur Weasley: 68%
  4. Remus Lupin: 66%
  5. Nymphadora Tonks: 66%

Okay, Luna is just so underappreciated! Everyone goes off about how she’s so odd and naive, and she’s really not. Neville and Luna were always my favorite Harry Potter characters (I mean, I appreciate the main trio, but, eh), so I’m glad I got Luna… because that means I get Mr. Sexy Herbologist.

Star Trek: Deep Space 9

  1. Jadzia Dax: 69%
  2. Julian Bashir: 69%
  3. Kasidy Yates: 69%
  4. Jake Sisko: 68%
  5. Nog: 64%

Deep Space Nine is absolutely my favorite Trek. I love many characters, but I don’t know that I could pick a favorite (okay, I lie, it’s Elim). Despite loving the series and characters (minus the rush that was Season 7), I’ve never particularly identified closely with any of them. Dax is definitely up there as a favorite, though, so I’ll take it!

Twin Peaks

  1. Dale Cooper: 71%
  2. Norma Jennings: 68%
  3. Lucy Moran: 68%
  4. Shelly Johnson: 64%
  5. Pete Martell: 60%

While I would be classified as “too young” to appreciate Twin Peaks, it has swiftly become one of my favorite fandoms. I think it’s the one thing that has remained of the fandoms my ex-husband introduced me to. It was not the first David Lynch work I’d seen, but it gave me a much better appreciation and understanding of how he works as a whole. Plus, you just can’t say no to the quirky cast, and occult undertones. I will wear with pride all of the names I was given, even if they all have their own weird flaws.

The West Wing

  1. Donna Moss: 75%
  2. Charlie Young: 71%
  3. Sam Seaborn: 69%
  4. Joey Lucas: 67%
  5. C.J. Cregg: 66%

The West Wing is probably my biggest go-to show when I’m struggling emotionally. It’s one of the few television shows I grew up watching (along with DS9) in full, and being able to binge it on Netflix multiple times the past year has been a help when I needed something to get me through the depression rut I was stuck in. It’s also one of the things Manthing and I love to watch and share. He’s told me many times that I remind him of dear Donnatella, so I wear it with pride that I got her as a top result, as well.

A Hogwarts Party https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2015/08/12/a-hogwarts-party/ https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2015/08/12/a-hogwarts-party/#respond Wed, 12 Aug 2015 19:54:00 +0000 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2015/08/12/a-hogwarts-party/ This is post 9 of 31 for the Blaugust event. To check out more Blaugust posts and sign up to participate, visit the Blaugust Nook!

The past few days have been spent planning my birthday party for Saturday. While my birthday was the end of July, we’re celebrating my party late because, well, we were moving my birthday weekend.

I grew up with the Harry Potter books, and as much as I dislike Harry as a character (ugh, stop being so emo!), I really love the other main/supporting characters, and the Wizarding World as a whole.

So I decided that I wanted to celebrate a Hogwarts birthday this weekend.

What does that entail? A lot of prep. I’ve decided to share with you guys all the stuff I’m doing so that maybe one day someone can make use of it! (Bonus? ANOTHER BLOG POST TO CATCH UP WITH BLAUGUST! … *ahem*)

I’ll be sure to take pictures of everything once made, decorated, etc. For now, this is just the list of everything I want to do/make. Y’know, the planning part. Because that’s the hardest part.

Goody Bags

No party is complete without goody bags, am I right? Including myself and Chaide, there are twelve people invited to my party. So we needed twelve goody bags. Because it’s just fun, even if they’re simple.

Chaide found some Candy Cauldrons (No, they’re not made out of candy. They’re plastic), so we’re going to put the following (loose) inside of them:
Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Bean
Lemon Drops
Chocolate Frogs (made from chocolate melts)

Activities

For activities, we’re mainly going to watch some of the movies that are my favorites. We don’t own all of them, so we’ll end up renting some of them via Amazon, I’m sure. That’s something we actually need to check on prior to this weekend.

We’re also going to create wands, and potions (from corn syrup and fine glitter)! I know, you’d think this was a party for kids, wouldn’t you? Nah. We’re just a bunch of folks that like to get crafty along with our nerdy endeavors.

Food and Drink

And of course, I’d be remiss to list out the entirety of our menu. So, here we go!

  • Hogwarts House Salad – All the colors: red (cherry tomatoes), yellow (yellow peppers), green (cucumbers and scallions), blue (blue cheese on the side for those that don’t like it) with various sundry dressings.
  • Hogwarts Fruit Salad – I wanted fruit, so we’re making a fruit salad with bananas, strawberries, blueberries, and green grapes with walnuts on the side.
  • Turkey Shepherd’s Pie – I’m not big on heavy meats (lamb and beef), and some of our friends lean toward pescatarian, but will eat poultry in a pinch, so it’s a good compromise.
  • Brussels Sprouts – Just your typical roasted sprouts with some balsamic vinegar. They’re so tasty that way! One of my favorite recipes, and oh so simple!
  • Professor Sprout’s Herbology Plate – Again, I want some extra veggies, so we’re going to use broccoli, tomato, and carrots.
  • Professor Snape’s Stuffed Toadstools – Who can resist stuffed mushrooms? And I’m making them vegetarian, because why not?
  • Golden Snitches – Cake pops! They’re going to be adorable! I can’t wait to make them! Even if they look ugly, I’m still looking forward to it!
  • Butterbeer – Non-alcoholic for friends who don’t want the two alcoholic drinks we’re making. See recipe number 2 for the one we’re using!
  • Pureblood & Mudblood – The two cocktails we’re going to serve. Our liqueur cabinet is still accruing new additions, so we had to limit what we’re making.
Phew. Think we’ll be exhausted, much? Haha. But hopefully we’ll have some tasty leftovers! This post was actually a lot of fun to put together. I should write one up for the Lovecraftian birthday I put together for Chaide’s birthday last year! Or was it the year before… Ia! Ia!

Let’s Hitch a Ride https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2015/07/24/lets-hitch-a-ride/ https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2015/07/24/lets-hitch-a-ride/#comments Fri, 24 Jul 2015 17:03:00 +0000 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2015/07/24/lets-hitch-a-ride/ Savior of Men, Chestnut Stonebough

First, I have to mention my new unofficial title, thanks to Captain Codfish on Twitter. We were discussing hair dye/makeup, and a conversation transpired resulting in me “saving men everywhere”. So, he gave me a new title.

Which then led to this.

Yes, it’s all in jest. But it just tickled my funny bone and I had to share. XD

Five Fandom Friday

Thanks to Ravalation,  I stumbled upon the Female Geek Bloggers G+ group. They do a writing prompt every Friday called 5 Fandom Friday. The topics seem fairly interesting, and I enjoy reading other responses to the topics. The idea is to take the topic, and combine it with your various fandoms. For example, last week was “Five things you own that you bought at cons”, and the start of the month was “Five favorite aliens”.

This week, the topic is: Five Fictional Vehicles I’d Love to Travel In.

So, here are my five vehicles in no particular order of importance.

Serenity

I think this is kind of a given. Anybody who is a fan of Firefly would want to take a trip on the Serenity. Honestly, I think most of us would like to live there. I really can’t wait to get more of the comics so I can read the official cannon on what happens with the crew. Because, really, who didn’t get involved in the lives of these characters?

TARDIS

I feel almost cliché stating that I’d love to go for a ride in the TARDIS. But honestly, it would mainly determine on whom the Doctor was. Because not all incarnations are the same. Regardless, I think the TARDIS is extraordinary, and I’d love to meet her–even in human form! Plus, that episode was totally written by Gaiman. And it was amazing. I was able to put aside my disdain for Smith and enjoy an episode fully!

USS Defiant

This is honestly mainly for the crew. The Space Station itself doesn’t move, ergo I wouldn’t consider it a vehicle, and I want to spend time with all of them. Seriously. This is one show I can’t help but fan-girl over. I’ve signatures of about half the main cast, and I’m aiming to finish my collection. Meeting Avery Brooks, René Aberjonois, and Armin Shimerman is pretty much the highlight of my Geek Experiences so far in my life. Even just the few minutes I was able to speak to them, shake their hands, and get their signatures. This is probably my first and foremost fandom.

Hogwarts Express

I’d like to ride it mainly to experience the Wizarding World. I enjoy the books, even though I don’t care for the character of Harry Potter himself. I especially despise sharing a birthday with him (though don’t mind sharing one with J.K. Rowling). I much prefer Neville (since the first book!). And I could totally hang out with Neville if I took the Hogwarts Express over to Hogwarts.

Speeder Bike

I’d also really like to own a speeder bike to traverse around. It’d be much more interesting than my crap van, that’s for sure. Plus, Leia looked so badass riding one, what adventurous woman wouldn’t want to ride one around?
