I first saw this floating around Facebook, but didn’t pay much mind to it until I saw it floating around the blogosphere. Endalia was kind enough to link it in the Blaugust Discord, so I saved it for a rainy day. Today is that rainy day.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Willow was always my favorite character in Buffy, with Cordelia as a close second, so I’m happy that she ended up being my highest in Buffy, and I suppose overall, as well. But ugh, Xander. At least it’s only 55%.

Firefly + Serenity

3. Inara Serra: 69%
4. Derrial Book: 67%

Kaylee and Inara were always characters I identified with the most in Firefly. I love all the characters, but I very much gravitate towards Kaylee as someone I could see myself being. So I feel it’s fairly accurate!

Harry Potter

Okay, Luna is just so underappreciated! Everyone goes off about how she’s so odd and naive, and she’s really not. Neville and Luna were always my favorite Harry Potter characters (I mean, I appreciate the main trio, but, eh), so I’m glad I got Luna… because that means I get Mr. Sexy Herbologist.

Star Trek: Deep Space 9

Deep Space Nine is absolutely my favorite Trek. I love many characters, but I don’t know that I could pick a favorite (okay, I lie, it’s Elim). Despite loving the series and characters (minus the rush that was Season 7), I’ve never particularly identified closely with any of them. Dax is definitely up there as a favorite, though, so I’ll take it!

Twin Peaks

While I would be classified as “too young” to appreciate Twin Peaks, it has swiftly become one of my favorite fandoms. I think it’s the one thing that has remained of the fandoms my ex-husband introduced me to. It was not the first David Lynch work I’d seen, but it gave me a much better appreciation and understanding of how he works as a whole. Plus, you just can’t say no to the quirky cast, and occult undertones. I will wear with pride all of the names I was given, even if they all have their own weird flaws.

The West Wing

The West Wing is probably my biggest go-to show when I’m struggling emotionally. It’s one of the few television shows I grew up watching (along with DS9) in full, and being able to binge it on Netflix multiple times the past year has been a help when I needed something to get me through the depression rut I was stuck in. It’s also one of the things Manthing and I love to watch and share. He’s told me many times that I remind him of dear Donnatella, so I wear it with pride that I got her as a top result, as well.

An impromoptu prompt that went through Blaugust recently was that of taking the D&D Alignment test as yourself to see what results you garnered. If I have tracked it correctly, it all stemmed from Eldaeriel‘s post a few days ago.

When I took the test, I ended up with the Neutral Good alignment. The quiz states:

A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. The common phrase for neutral good is “true good.” Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias toward or against order.

Taking this from my own perspective was interesting. I’ve always considered myself more Lawful than Neutral, but I guess I could see myself falling into the Neutral category. I did figure that I’d fall into the Good category, though. I care deeply about things/people–whether they be silly little arguments online, or someone truly in need (it’s a blessing and a curse). I always try to follow the “golden rule” as difficult as it may be, sometimes. I also try to stay positive, and keep any negative thoughts about others to myself, though I do have to bite my tongue quite a bit sometimes.

Overall, I feel that it describes me fairly decently, though, as with any character you RP, I’m sure my personal alignment will change as I experience more of what life has to offer. I’d be interested in what it looks like a few years from now.

Every Labor Day Weekend in Atlanta, there’s this thing called DragonCon. It’s a multi-genre convention that covers various geek-related tracks. It’s fun, but it’s no PAX (they really could use some more gaming stuff! ).

Regardless, I’m really excited for it this year. Chaide and I are able to attend for a change (finances have kept us from doing so in the past), and we live close enough to take the train into the city for a change. The train is also supposedly free this year, which will help save costs if it is true (not that taking the train is much more expensive than driving, but any cost cutting is great!).

We will have to drive one day, though, because we want to see Rasputina the night they’re playing, and by the time we get out, the trains will have stopped. But parking for one day versus three/four sounds much better! One of our guildies is also coming into town and staying for about a week, so it’ll be fun hanging out with him!

What I’m most excited for, however, is to see Terry Farrell (and Rene Auberjonois, again)! The fandom nearest and dearest to my heart is Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. While folks just a few years older than me grew up with Wesley Crusher, I grew up with Jake Sisko (granted, I still watched TNG, but I was a few years behind). Even though I know what happens in various episodes, the feels still get to me. And sometimes I see something I missed before.

I’m hoping to be able to attend the panel with Farrell and Auberjonois. It’s the one thing I’ll regret missing during the whole con. It’s of a high priority to me.

Something else I’m trying to do (last minute, of course) is put together a costume for Saturday. The group of geek girls I hang out with comes up with a costume theme every year and takes group photos. I wasn’t going to participate this year, but it’s a fairly easy theme to try to pull off last minute–1950s Fandom.

We’re taking 1950s fashion and mashing it up with our favorite fandoms! So, I plan on making a blue poodle skirt with the DS9 communicator on it, and painting Trill spots on my neck. I’m hoping to do a Victory Curls hairstyle, cat eye makeup, and I’ll need to buy a shirt to wear with the skirt, but it should be an easy find–even a regular t-shirt tucked into the skirt will work and I can bring my black cardigan that I use for work (because I always get cold).

I’m actually really pumped to try to pull it off! I just need to figure out when I’m going to hit up the craft store, though. I’ll have to check the hours and the closest fabric store and prep tonight by taking my measurements to make a quick non-pattern skirt. Maybe I’ll even get over my dislike of photos and post one or two on the blog if I manage to pull it off!

First, I have to mention my new unofficial title, thanks to Captain Codfish on Twitter. We were discussing hair dye/makeup, and a conversation transpired resulting in me “saving men everywhere”. So, he gave me a new title.

Which then led to this.

Yes, it’s all in jest. But it just tickled my funny bone and I had to share. XD

Five Fandom Friday

Thanks to Ravalation,  I stumbled upon the Female Geek Bloggers G+ group. They do a writing prompt every Friday called 5 Fandom Friday. The topics seem fairly interesting, and I enjoy reading other responses to the topics. The idea is to take the topic, and combine it with your various fandoms. For example, last week was “Five things you own that you bought at cons”, and the start of the month was “Five favorite aliens”.

This week, the topic is: Five Fictional Vehicles I’d Love to Travel In.

So, here are my five vehicles in no particular order of importance.

Serenity

I think this is kind of a given. Anybody who is a fan of Firefly would want to take a trip on the Serenity. Honestly, I think most of us would like to live there. I really can’t wait to get more of the comics so I can read the official cannon on what happens with the crew. Because, really, who didn’t get involved in the lives of these characters?

TARDIS

I feel almost cliché stating that I’d love to go for a ride in the TARDIS. But honestly, it would mainly determine on whom the Doctor was. Because not all incarnations are the same. Regardless, I think the TARDIS is extraordinary, and I’d love to meet her–even in human form! Plus, that episode was totally written by Gaiman. And it was amazing. I was able to put aside my disdain for Smith and enjoy an episode fully!

USS Defiant

This is honestly mainly for the crew. The Space Station itself doesn’t move, ergo I wouldn’t consider it a vehicle, and I want to spend time with all of them. Seriously. This is one show I can’t help but fan-girl over. I’ve signatures of about half the main cast, and I’m aiming to finish my collection. Meeting Avery Brooks, René Aberjonois, and Armin Shimerman is pretty much the highlight of my Geek Experiences so far in my life. Even just the few minutes I was able to speak to them, shake their hands, and get their signatures. This is probably my first and foremost fandom.

Hogwarts Express

I’d like to ride it mainly to experience the Wizarding World. I enjoy the books, even though I don’t care for the character of Harry Potter himself. I especially despise sharing a birthday with him (though don’t mind sharing one with J.K. Rowling). I much prefer Neville (since the first book!). And I could totally hang out with Neville if I took the Hogwarts Express over to Hogwarts.

Speeder Bike

I’d also really like to own a speeder bike to traverse around. It’d be much more interesting than my crap van, that’s for sure. Plus, Leia looked so badass riding one, what adventurous woman wouldn’t want to ride one around?

So, to the horror of many Star Trek/Star Wars folks, I have created a new alt in SWTOR, and her name is… Jadz’iaa!

Yup. Jadzia is (one of) my favorite character(s) from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. When I was a kid watching Star Trek, I really wanted to be Jadzia, and I got a little jealous when so-and-so marries her. Because who wouldn’t want to marry Jadzia?

One of the things I loved (and still love) about Star Trek is that women were human beings–they weren’t put in just for flavor. They were an integral part of the show. They were just as strong as the gents, and they had lives. They weren’t just “kick ass and take names” ladies with no friends, no family, and no love life. I looked up to Jadzia as a female while growing up in the Sci-Fi genre.

So when I spent the Cartel Coins to unlock Twi’lek (yeah yeah) and I saw the spots option, I had to name her Jadzia, even if it is a sin to crossover Trek and Wars like that. Because my Bounty Hunter is a kick-ass lady who will cut you into Sunday. But she also has a soft side. She see Mako as her adopted little sister. She might one day be interested in the romance options available to her (Maybe. Glancing at the list of companions didn’t thrill me.). And yes, to a degree, she has a bit of my own personality. But she’s modeled after the character traits I saw in Jadzia growing up.

Bounty Hunter Fun

So I started a bit of the Bounty Hunter quest line. I do have to say: I really don’t like Hutta. I really hope that the other two classes don’t have to start on Hutta. Ugh. Hutta.

But I really liked Jory. I thought he was neat. He didn’t get sarcasm. It was kind of cute.

Then it was off to kill a smuggler so I could get into some sort of Bounty Hunter contest. To do so I needed more of a name for myself, so off he had to go.

I also helped out some lady, and sided with her husband, that, yeah, she was a little out there. So I sent him off with his son, instead of killing the husband and sending the son off by himself.

When I got back to the base of operations, I found Jory and Braden dead. Mako and I reviewed the tapes and decided I should follow-through with the plan.

So off I went to go visit Nem’ro, who is going to sponsor me, so long as I go kill somebody. So the conversation went awry and I ended up having to kill him even though it wasn’t my intention. Ah well. Nem’ro will get his head, and I’ll be well on my way into the contest.

Honestly, I really just want off of Hutta so I can go pick up my professions and start working on those. Because I’m really liking how I can AFK-farm. It feels a little cheap, but it’s a nice short break every so often while working to be able to queue up some more gathering.

I just wanted to remind everybody that today is William Shatner’s 80th birthday. Whether you love him, hate him, or could care less about him, he’s been a big influence in geek culture, and today’s pop culture. As a YouTube video comment claims, “This man will be the sample king long after Charlie Sheen and Vanilla Ice are doorstops of pop history.”

Most people know him as Captain Kirk, though he’s done quite a bit more than that. Commercials, other various TV shows, conventions, and even guest-spots on geeky shows and movies (such as Fanboys), and more.

To celebrate The Shat, I leave you with a classic.

I added Star Trek.com on Facebook a while back. While I don’t really use Facebook much, except to keep in contact with a few friends, I thought it would be cool to “Like” and follow one of my favorite series.

While I like most of the Star Trek series (Voyager never sat right with me… Janeway needed a lot more oomph), my absolute favorite was Deep Space Nine. Seven seasons of glory… or allegory. Whichever you choose. But, it is still my favorite, regardless.

Anyway, as I was browsing through Facebook seeing the Christmas updates people had made, I came across this little charm…

Sloan (played by Will Sadler) is one of my favorite guest star characters. He’s just a total badass fellow. And when you work for the Secret Service equivalent on Star Trek… well, you’d have to be badass.

Coincidentally, earlier today, I was thinking to myself about the first episode that Sloan appears in. This whole thought process came about when I was telling myself that I needed to set the Xbox back up so that the Elephant and I could start watching DS9 from start to finish. The last series we watched from start to finish was LOST (which was amazing… until the last episode… but that’s a different rant for a different day), which he had chosen. It was my turn to choose a series (since I wasn’t really feeling BSG), so I chose DS9.

Anyway, Season 6 is probably my favorite season of the entire show, and I was contemplating some of my favorite episodes, like The Magnificent Ferengi (obviously, I mean, I would totally be a Ferengi if I were in the Star Trek universe), Profit and Lace (more Ferengi), In the Pale Moonlight, and Inquisition (featuring Sadler).

Soon after, I stumbled across the interview and had a geekgasm. DS9 doesn’t get featured often enough for my liking…

But, for those Trekkies out there that like DS9, enjoy the interview! It was great (and included some Bill & Ted tidbits for those Nick kids like me)!
