Gaming Goals Review: October

I started this back in June 2015, and have been keeping up with it this past month. I reduced my goals the past few months due to real life, and I think I started getting things to a reasonable goal list. But, we’ll see in a moment.

Thoughts

Such lofty goals, hah. If I thought September was busy, October completely trumped it. I never did get into SWTOR for the month. I have kept up-to-date with the launcher, though, so I’m more likely to hop into it when I feel like it.

As for FFXIV, I think it’s what I played the most this month. Granted, I also set myself goals that were easily attainable, overall. I never did log onto Lamia. I don’t know if I want to level two characters through the main story, quite honestly. So even though Tal is over there, I’m none-too-keen to level even a second character through the main story. It’d almost feel like splitting my time with another game, even though it’s the same one. If that makes a lick of sense.

We’ve played a fair bit of The Secret World as of late, mainly to work on the Halloween content, but Chaide has also found himself enjoying it far more than when we first piddled around in it back in March. The only problem with TSW playtime is that we need to try to work it around the schedule of the three of us (some months are a moot point because Cam is traveling for work). Sometimes our friend Moon will hop in with us, too, if she’s around, but she’s not really one of the core folks we work times around.

I’ve been playing lots of WildStar, but I haven’t had the time or energy to do much outside of guild leading and prepping for ThaydFest 3 (which is in about a week and a half). Actually, I’m kind of stressing out about it, haha. I’ll be ready for a nice relaxing break away from WildStar over Thanksgiving weekend! Oh, wait, nevermind, I’ll be running a guild Harvest Party. Suffice to say, December might be a bit slack in the WildStar department.

Gaming Goals: October

I’ve been enjoying putting together this gaming goals thing I decided to try out in June. It’s helped me focus my time and come up with blog posts. Life has definitely kept me busy as of late, especially since I’ve been focusing a bit more on some real-life activities. Like concerts (Chaide and I’re going to both a Meg Myers and Rasputina concerts this month!), festivals (bluegrass and chili, here I come!), and non-computer gaming (D&D campaign run by Chaide, and a local Mind’s Eye Theatre Vampire LARP). Plus the holidays are coming. It starts with Halloween and doesn’t end until New Years!

So, here’s what I hope to achieve during October, even with real life taking up a majority of the time.

So, okay. I feel overall that I did pretty damned awesome considering how much playtime (or lack thereof) I had during September. Also how much I finished despite the fact that I had some serious Guild Master-ing to do in WildStar.

But let’s take a look one by one. WildStar goals were definitely a little more than I could handle. I have been making a conscious effort to check the Contracts board and do them as I go around doing other things in the game–especially dailies. Speaking of dailies, I’m only one more day of dailies away from completing Northern Wastes, so I’m counting it as completed. So ha!

I haven’t picked up anymore AMP/AP yet, but I do have enough Elder Gems to at least pick up one, and close to a second. Apparently, the Elder Gem cap got upped, which will help a lot! But, it’ll cut into my gold funds. I recorded one last Yardcore before F2P dropped, and am in the process of editing it. These are going to have to take a hiatus, not for lack of my wanting to create them, but for all the folks I’d have toured with redoing their plots with them becoming larger by default.

I also completed my Algoroc achievements, and obtained some new mini-pets. And after F2P, I’m rolling in even more, but more on that later. I never got around to my plushies list as it wasn’t a high priority, so it’ll probably go off the list for a while until I feel like I’ve a little more free time.

I reached 22 Gladiator this past weekend in FFXIV, so I’m counting that I hit 15 as a part of my FFXIV goals, even if it might have been Oct 1st rather than the 30th. I haven’t logged into Lamia in a long time, mainly due to the lack of game time, and wanting to play with the large number of folk that have rolled up on Cactuar to play with us.

I did pretty well in SWTOR, and am hoping to get Jadz’iaa up this month. As for TSW, we got to play some, but technical issues and lack of free time has prevented a lot of the goals I’ve had for there. That list will probably stay, however.

Check back tomorrow when I decide what the heck I want to work on for the month of October, especially since we’ll have D&D, a Vampire LARP, two concerts (Meg Myers and Rasputina) and other various sundry real life obligations.

Cartel Coin Bonanza

On Sunday, I hopped into SWTOR for a good chunk of the day. Chaide and I handed in some quests, and worked on our Bounty Hunter/Imperial Agent combo, and I also spent some time on some alts.

Imperial Agent

We ended up doing the Sithspawn quest a second time. The whole time we were doing it I kept thinking, “I remember doing this quest recently…”. Well, turns out we had, because the item I chose as the reward was something I was already wearing… could have used the commendations instead! Whoops!

We also did some more quests in the Revanite Camp. I’m really enjoying the story there, and I’m glad that we’re going through all of the quests in the area, despite it taking longer than just taking advantage of the xp bonus going on right now. (Ergo, no level gain, but we had fun!) The downside of that is that we wouldn’t get to actually play together. Which I think is what I dislike the most about the game as a whole. Well, that and the way the F2P system works. Though I am going to go down to Preferred Status at some point soon.

Preferred Status Preparation

Star Wars is one of those games I enjoy, but it’s not something I want to pursue full time, or make a main game. I enjoy the story in it, which is why I seem to play most of my games nowadays. I’m not big on flashpoints, and I don’t want to raid. I jsut want to hang out and have fun while playing through the story. But, it stinks that it can’t be more multi-player than it is. So, I’m not going to sub to it for much longer, I think.

I did prepare to go down to Preferred status this weekend, though. I had to do some research on the chart, because I don’t feel it’s particularly clear, but I used a good chunk of my Cartel Coins to get a bunch of things, including my Togruta! But, that wasn’t something I was prepping for removing my sub. That’s something I’ve wanted for a long while. (I have a thing for Lekku and Montrals.)

I purchased the Preferred Access Bundle because it was on sale and was a good deal for things I thought were important to keeping me enjoying the game when I change. It included Inventory space, Crew Skill unlock, Speeder unlock, Display Titles unlock, Unify Colors unlock, and Display Legacy title unlock. I’m looking into getting the Crew Appearance authorization, and the Hide Head Slot customization, too. I do find it heinously stupid that I need to purchase Guild Bank Access on a Preferred account, though… for 600 Cartel Coins!

Montrals and Lekku

So, since I purchased Togruta, I decided to roll up a new character… again. Yeah, I’m an alt-a-holic, especially in games where I can’t find things to truly occupy my time outside of leveling (or ones that truly don’t interest me in the areas of collecting–I have no desire to compulsively collect achievements in SWTOR as compared to WildStar/TSW/FFXIV).

So, meet Vee’naa, my new Sith Inquisitor! I got her just past the first cutscene, and then switched over to my Bounty Hunter to play her some, as getting her to 20 is on my goals for the month.

I’ve been focusing mainly on the story for my Bounty Hunter, and I think I’ll do the same for my Inquisitor. They might hit max before my main, but I really want to experience everything on my Agent, and don’t feel it benefits me to repeat all of the side quests on the others when I can just gain a level every main-story quest I hand in.

I’ve been having fun playing my Bounty Hunter as a sort of ruffian, and it’ll be neat to play the Sith as a true Sith. I ended up getting the Bounty Hunter to level 12, and I’m hoping to get her some more levels this weekend, because they go by so damned fast.

Yes, the month is almost partially over and I’m finally getting to my July wrapup. But here it is!

I think I was a little over-zealous with my goals again this past month. Life was really busy again, so I’m going to be cutting down on my goals again for next month… again.

So in WildStar, I think I need to change the type of goals I’m setting. I didn’t do a lot on my list, per se. Contracts are something I always for get about. Granted, lately it’s been a lot of logging on just to raid because screw you, real life. I’ve been trying to do my dailies as often as possible, but I don’t have the time daily.

I got Yardcore up, but it was only one. Real life interfered with that quite a bit, especially considering I recorded the Yardcore in July. I’ve spent time on the PTR but have yet to post anything because of time/energy. I also got my first kill on Kuralak and some new mini-bosses, which was fun, but raiding isn’t something sustainable for me as of late with my schedule.

I’m sure it also didn’t help that I’ve been doing a lot of stuff in WildStar related to the Lifestyles of Nexus contest that I’m still working on (and will hopefully have up by the end of the weekend!). So I’ve been online, but just busy with other things.

Sometimes I really just want to not raid when raid is going. Maybe I’ll do that one weekend… (we’ll see.) As for Bauxyte, I did play her, but I only got to 30. I’m still having fun with her, though, so I’d like to keep goals for her. I took off the Armorsmithing goal because professions are changing come F2P and I don’t want to waste materials. So I’m currently hoarding on all my toons.

The goals I set for myself were different than the ones I actually accomplished in FFXIV. I hit 30 as a Marauder, and started on my quests as a Gladiator. I’d still like to work on my professions, though, so we’ll see what my schedule looks like before setting up more FFXIV goals. Work from home days have been far too much work and a little less multi-tasking than I would like. Normally I can do a bit of profession fun while working, and just haven’t been able to as of late.

I didn’t even get into SWTOR this past month, so I’m not sure it’ll stay on my list at all.

We got to play some TSW, which was a lot of fun. We still haven’t run Hell, because we didn’t think we had the time to do so the few times we played, and I did start putting together the first Let’s Play video, but just haven’t finished it yet because of some WildStar obligations.

I also purchased Hatoful Boyfriend and took bunches of screenshots (as my Anook page can attest to), however, I haven’t blogged about it, yet. I plan on writing an informal “My Thoughts” on the blog here, as well as more of a general overall review over at QueueTimes, hopefully soon-ish.

I plan on tweaking goals for this month (even though it’s already partially over) and posting them later today.

I’ve been enjoying putting together this gaming goals thing I decided to try out in June. It’s helped me a bunch with focusing my time, especially when I was lacking it. Last month I had a lot of real life, so I didn’t complete nearly as many goals as I wanted to. So this month I think I’m going to cut down on them a little bit more, too. First, because I dislike having things unchecked on my list, and second, I’m adjusting to a new schedule IRL (plus some extra events this month), plus I’ve started dedicating two nights a week to raid (assuming IRL doesn’t interfere).

So, without further ado, my gaming goals for August!

So uhh. This month? Even though I made my list of goals things I thought would be minuscule and easy to accomplish didn’t make them easy to accomplish. However, I did get close to a good many few.

In WildStar, I’m only about six AMP/AP points away from max for each one, which should be easily accomplished via Elder Gems, assuming I keep up with my dailies. And doing dailies will lead to the max reps. And I’m so damn close! And then I can focus on the other two daily zones. Oy. I don’t think I’ll keep the PvP goal on my list, for now. I’m too busy in real life, trying to adjust to a new apartment and new commute, and still unpacking and the like. I did get close to posting one Yardcore this month–I recorded one with Katia Managan (the racetrack extraordinaire) on July 4th, but real life kept cropping up and preventing me from doing much with videos at all. That will be posted next week, sometime, and then I need to find another volunteer to hit up for this month (August). Bauxyte is level 28, so I’m close to my goal of level 30–and I’m happy with how far I’ve gotten her. She’s a bunch of fun.

My FFXIV goals ended up being highly far-fetched. I think I logged into Final Fantasy twice the entire month? Not for lack of wanting, but for lack of time. I really feel like I should have cut down more on my goals overall.

SWTOR goals also ended up being far-fetched, because I didn’t log into the game at all this month. I’m hoping to convince Chaide that we can do some time on a Friday night or some such just to work on the story. I really don’t like that the game seems to favor single-player more than multiple-player. It’s probably one of the things I dislike the most.

While we got in some time in TSW, we never did get to the Blue Mountains, nor run Hell. Again, not for lack of wanting–but lack of time. Same with the videos. I almost have the first LP finished, but it’s a bit of a long video, and the computer I was using to edit it kept crashing and pissing me off. The first few times I edited it, I lost everything and had to restart, as the initial save was crashing me. Grrr. Hoping to get that first one out this month, even if it is a tad long.

I got a Torchlight video up, but I didn’t get in any playtime. It may be my “play on lunch” game when I do work from home days. I do have one more video to finish out for it, and I’ve been having fun putting them together.

Later today I plan to post my goals for the month of August. And I think I should probably cut down on them overall. Have you guys been setting gaming goals for yourselves? How goes the progress?

Trying this out last month seemed to be helpful to me in those waffley “I don’t know what to play!” whiney moments, so I’m going to try it again this month! You might notice that this month the lists are a tad shorter. The reasoning behind this is (1) we’ll be on vacation for about nine days, and (2) I didn’t get through a bunch of things, so I’d like to try to make the list a little more tackle-able.

Gaming Goals Review: June

So, I started something new at the beginning of this month where I decided to set some gaming goals for myself and then see how I did with them, because I’ve much less time than I’d like with real life cropping up and all that jazz. So, let’s review how I did with them!

WildStar Goals

Reach the max tier of both the PvP and PvE contracts by the end of the month (I still have yet to max them since they came out)
Max my rep in the Crimson Badlands and Northern Wastes (The first two daily areas. And no, I still haven’t finished maxing the reps.)
Finish out my PvP DPS set (purples)
Finish runing my PvE Tank and DPS sets (I need to stop putting this off, as now I’m starting to use it as an excuse to not run content)

My Thoughts

Let’s tackle my thoughts by game, shall we?

I had a lot of WildStar goals I got really close to–I have an almost complete set of purple PvP gear (DPS), and I’m almost maxed with both original daily reps. I’m also very close to maxing out my contracts. I completed runing my DPS set, and was almost done with my tank set until I got a new piece. So now I’m stuck re-runing again. Which is a tad of a pain, but worth it for the upgrade I got.

I got through a massive back-log of guild-related items, and just have one more left that I plan on taking care of this weekend (does Lifestyles of Nexus ring a bell to anybody? ). Due to real-life, I cut back on my Yardcore schedule. However, I did put up Episodes 5, 6, and 7.

I didn’t get to Outfitting because things are buggy. So instead, I just reported a lot of outfitting bugs. I’m sure if I keep poking them they’ll get fixed, like a few of my Cooking bugs, did. I got two “bonus” items as well. I ended up finishing attunement and getting in on my first raid in WildStar, even though they weren’t original goals.

I’ve been spending a lot of time in WildStar, so I didn’t get close to any of my FFXIV goals. So they will more than likely remain the same for next month. We shall see. I’m enjoying it, but my time is spread thin with the move, lately. So it’s been more of a “What can we do together with the limited time we have and smash faces?”.

I got close to a bunch of my SWTOR goals. I even logged at about level 21 last time I was on. However, I’m not really enjoying SWTOR as much as I am TSW and FFXIV. So priorities might change, depending on my mood. Chaide, however, is loving SWTOR way more than I am, so I might still end up there on occasion with him when he wants to play his Bounty Hunter.

As I said, I’ve been enjoying TSW way more than SWTOR. So you might see some more goals up. However, it’s a little harder to determine goals there, because, well, there’s no levels. While I didn’t get any videos up on the blog this month, I’ve been working on the video layout and converting the hours of gameplay we’ve recorded into a format my program will read. So maybe in July I’ll get one or two videos up!

Torchlight. Well… I just haven’t had the desire to make videos. So uh. We’ll see if they stay on the list or not.

Overall, I think I did a pretty decent job laying out goals and reaching them. I do think, however, I may need to be a bit more realistic with them based on my play time for this past month, and the real-life stresses I know are coming this coming month.

Expect a post in the next day or so laying out my goals for July. July may be a little slim considering we’ll be traveling for a full week, as well as prepping to move as our slum apartment complex was bought out by the city and we get to move earlier than our lease is up (yay!).
