I set some goals for July, but I honestly didn’t glance at them much during the month, so I’m not sure if I completed many. Let’s find out together!

  • WHM to 45 (FFXIV) Check!
  • Complete MSQ through level 45 (FFXIV) Check?

I definitely hit my goal of getting to 45! And I think I was in story quests that were level 45? I know that with the big patch earlier this week everything has changed with MSQ for base game, so I’ve yet to dip back in to check where I was.

  • Complete How I Made $10K as a PSO (Reading/Business) Check!
  • Complete Don’t Keep Your Day Job (Reading/Business)
  • Get halfway through A Song of Wraiths and Ruin (Reading)
  • Complete Sunstone Vol. 2 (Comics)

I had a lot of reading goals for July that I seem to mostly have accomplished in August. I completed the first goal in July, but I didn’t complete Sunstone Volume 2 and A Song of Wraiths and Ruin until earlier this month. In fact, I’ve already read four books this month, which is the most I’ve read this year so far. I’m still working my way through Don’t Keep Your Day Job, but I think it’s going to be a slower read as I thoughtfully work through the prompts in each chapter.

  • Complete Warrior Nun (TV) Check!
  • Complete Season 7 of Star Wars: Clone Wars (TV)
  • Complete Season 5 of Stargate Atlantis (TV)
  • Start Season 1 of Stargate Universe (TV)

Unfortunately, I haven’t completed any of these except zooming through Warrior Nun. Not for lack of wanting to. More for lack of losing access to Stargate (it left Prime before I finished it) and Clone Wars (when we built my new rig, I lost access to Disney+ because I’m using Manthing’s login). I very much want to finish both, but I just got access to Manthing’s Hulu (which has Stargate), and I need access to Disney+ again.

Overall, not too shabby on goals, so let’s see what I can accomplish for the remaining 16 days of the month!

August Goals

These are a bit pared down compared to what I would normally choose as goals, mainly because I only have 16 days left in the month. Let’s do this!

  • WHM to 50 (FFXIV)
  • Complete updated base game MSQ (FFXIV)
  • Complete three more books for the month (total: 7) (Reading)
  • Complete Season 5 of Stargate Atlantis (TV)
  • Start Season 1 of Stargate Universe (TV)

Nerding Goals July 2020 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/07/09/nerding-goals-july-2020/ https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/07/09/nerding-goals-july-2020/#respond Thu, 09 Jul 2020 14:00:00 +0000 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/?p=1382 May/June Recap

I set up some May goals that seemed like I would manage most of them. I didn’t manage many, however, due to changes in the world and my own changes in game interests.

  • Inventory Management (ESO) Check!
  • Pick up the last items I need for learning crafting traits (ESO)
  • Do a few quests in Grahtwood (ESO)

I worked through my inventory management and tackled that, but I also realized that ESO really isn’t what I’m enjoying right now, as much as I may want to. So I’ll likely be putting ESO goals on the back burner for now, even if I do happen to log in and play some this month.

  • Finish Phoenix Wright: Justice for All (Visual Novel)
  • Play Muse Dash (Community Game-Along) Check!

I played quite a bit of Muse Dash, and have enjoyed myself greatly. However, I never did write about my thoughts on the game for the Community Game-Along. I’m not currently playing Muse Dash, but I do still have it installed because I will never say no to a game that works out well for depression days, or nights when I just need to unwind with mindless entertainment. I don’t think I’m going to participate in the Community Game-Along this month, as it’s JRPGJuly, and I don’t have the mental bandwidth to pick up an RPG right now (unless FFXIV counts!).

As for Phoenix Wright? Well, I saw that all of the games are available as a bundle on Steam, and well. I unfortunately missed the sale for the bundle. However, since I now know they’re on Steam, I’d rather play them there for ease-of-play, if I’m being honest. So I’m holding out for another sale on the series. For now, however, it’s coming off of my goals list.

  • Complete Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 of Sunstone (Comics)
  • Complete The Lesser Kindred (Reading) Check!
  • Start Redeeming the Lost (Reading) Check!
  • Complete one of the two books I am reading for my business (Reading)

I have yet to pick up anymore Sunstone, but I flew through both The Lesser Kindred and Redeeming the Lost. Business books got nowhere, but I think that’s partly because I didn’t call out which one I wanted to focus on, and partly due to the world environment making things feel pointless.

  • Complete Season 5 of Star Wars: Clone Wars Check!
  • Complete Season 10 of Stargate SG-1 Check!
  • Complete Season 3 of Stargate Atlantis Check!

I finished both season 5 and 6 of Star Wars: Clone Wars, but I’ve yet to start season 7, which I addressed briefly in my last post. I also completed season 10 of Stargate SG-1, the two Stargate movies, as well as seasons 3 and 4 of Stargate Atlantis. I am looking forward to finishing Atlantis out, but I also don’t want it to end. Overall, I didn’t do too badly on my goals over the two months I worked on them.

July Goals

  • WHM to 45 (FFXIV)
  • Complete MSQ through level 45 (FFXIV)
  • Complete How I Made $10K as a PSO (Reading/Business)
  • Complete Don’t Keep Your Day Job (Reading/Business)
  • Get halfway through A Song of Wraiths and Ruin (Reading)
  • Complete Sunstone Vol. 2 (Comics)
  • Complete Warrior Nun (TV)
  • Complete Season 7 of Star Wars: Clone Wars (TV)
  • Complete Season 5 of Stargate Atlantis (TV)
  • Start Season 1 of Stargate Universe (TV)

While July has officially started, I’ve been afk from much of social media and blogging just due to, well… *gestures at the world* and it’s effect on my mental (and physical) health. So I just wanted to do a quick recap of things I nerded out over the past two months to not only just talk about some fun things, but also get my blogging fingers working again after some time off to take care of myself.

Monster Prom

I spent quite a bit of time during May talking about my time playing in Monster Prom. I even dabbled in it some during June. But I kind of left it by the wayside for some unknown reason. I think because I got into a, “nothing is bringing me joy because STRESS” mode for so long. I’m thinking of picking it up again this weekend (since I shouldn’t have to work, and I’m feeling less ill) just to get in some laughs and try to work my way through the achievements. I adore this game, and I’m very much looking forward to nerding out over it even more!

Clone Wars

I finished out season 6 of Clone Wars these past two months, but I have yet to pick up season seven. Partly due to the “ohgodstress” mindset, partly due to the fact that I know season 7 is the last season and I don’t want it to end, and partly because I got caught up in a binge of something else…

Stargate

(Fan trailer may contain spoilers) Oh man, I’ve about finished the Stargate chronology and I am both sad and excited. I made it through all of Stargate SG-1 (including the two movies), and am on the final season of Stargate Atlantis, which just leaves me with Stargate Universe afterwards. I’m not sure what series to pick up next for binging after I finish Stargate. I’m open to suggestions of similar shows, though! Maybe Babylon 5. Or Farscape! I never finished Farscape, and it’d be cool to keep with two of the SG-1 season 10 characters.

Animal Crossing

Spending time at Jae’s place!

After finally managing to get a Switch, I dove head first into Animal Crossing. I’m still figuring out how things work, and slowly working my way through upgrading my house and getting neighbors, but I’m having so much fun, and have appreciated hanging out with one of my best friends, and getting some help and hangout time with Jae, which I appreciated so very much. I hope to be able to play some more with others as I continue to get into Animal Crossing. I very much love the fishing, bug hunting, and just picking up sea shells (and giving everything I can to the museum!).

Planner Stickers

It may come as no surprise (after mentioning this was becoming a thing back in May) that I have become utterly obsessed with planner stickers. I think it brings me back to a time when I was allowed to like stickers as a kid. Liking them as an adult is kind of a thing people look at you weirdly for, so finding this world of stickers that also help to keep me functioning has been a blessing, to be honest. It’s a creative outlet that I’ve much needed. I still get to collect and play with stickers, but it also gives me a visual of what I need/want to do so that I stay focused on tasks and feel much less stressed out about it.

I use my planner quite functionally, and pair it with my bullet journal so that the two together are a schedule and plan of what I need/want to accomplish each day. The month or so I’ve been doing this, has been quite helpful in helping to calm my mind. Especially after changing up my bullet journal style (for the second time this year) to allow myself more freedom to write and be creative and journal and put down stickers that I’m also using for the week in my planner.

FFXIV

I’m a goth fae queen. For the first time in my whole time playing FFXIV I hit the Mogstation…

I called it when I wrote about bouncing off of ESO. While I am still paying for a subscription, I haven’t really logged in (though I might want to do so for daily rewards this month…). I very much want to play it, but I don’t feel like I have the time or patience to do so right now. Instead, I have found myself diving into FFXIV once again. This time, I think it’s sticking more than it has before because I’ve been gaming some with the polycule.

Manthing and I either level some classes together (ARC/NIN), or we sit in Discord and play our own things. It also helps just being around the polycule as a whole even if I don’t get to play much with them. I’m still trying to figure my way around the FC, as I’m very much feeling an outsider right now, but I’m still enjoying my time playing mostly solo. I’ve been leveling my White Mage, and have been enjoying my time quite a bit.

I forgot how much I’ve loved healing. I haven’t healed in a very long time due to the fact that ex was always the healer, and I was always the tank. It feels comfortable, and has a more rhythmic flow to me than DPS does. Though, to be honest, I am very much looking forward to leveling Dancer, eventually!

Monster Shenanigans https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/05/19/monster-shenanigans/ https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/05/19/monster-shenanigans/#comments Wed, 20 May 2020 01:41:00 +0000 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/?p=1750 What is a Weekend?

Rambling Redshirt mentioned in one of his recent posts that he’s been experiencing some difficulty differentiating between weekends and weekdays. I’ve been feeling much the same, to be honest. The routines are much the same, and the content differs, but only slightly. My weekdays are busy with meetings and day job tasks, adult entertainment tasks, and blogging. But my weekends are much the same, minus the meetings.

Therefore, as of this past weekend, I’ve decided to start a new thing. Mainly because I’ve just been burnt out on life. I took Saturday completely for myself, as much as I struggled with doing so. And honestly, having a day entirely to myself, unplanned, where I give myself permission to do whatever I want, and give myself time off from even doing chores actually helped quite a bit. I even did dishes out of a desire to do them instead of “Ugh, they’re piling up, I should do them”.

While it has yet to completely solve my burnout, I’m looking forward to doing much the same this coming Saturday. I’m also looking forward to the week I took off work at the start of June because I’m just struggling with functioning and need time to relax, and finish cleaning/setting up my apartment (almost two years after moving in at this point).

Planner Addict

I may be turning into that person who’s obsessed with planning. I mean, I’ve kind of always been, this is no surprise, to be honest, but it’s the fact that I’m loving all the stickers and designing in my Happy Planner that’s surprising to me. This past weekend I ordered weekly sticker packs for the month of June, and I’m dying to get them in and use them. Some of them are printables, so Ainyan kindly offered her printer and Silhouette to cut them. I’ll need to go over and help Manthing choose which files to print and cut for June, but I may have him print an extra set of weekly pages so I can do some designing prior to June.

YouTube Thoughts

It needs some updates, as does the blog, tbh.

I’ve been having the YouTube itch, again. Specifically this weekend. It was strong at the start of the year because I can’t get back into streaming just yet due to lack of time. But then life happened and my desire flamed out a bit. The flame is back, and I’ve been trying to decide what to do with my channel. At first, I thought about splitting it up into multiple channels like a lot of guides and how-to videos have said to do… but that’s not what I want to do. It doesn’t feel like the correct choice, or the right path to take. I’ve been trying to get better about listening to my gut on even the simple/less important decisions in my life, so I’m going to go against all advice out there and do my own thing.

I’m passionate about a lot, and breaking up those passions into separate channels feels more like a chore than doing YouTube for what it should be—something to enjoy. Therefore, hopefully in the near future, I’ll be starting to put more Let’s Play videos up, as well as some vlogs and plan with me videos where I share my stickers and such.

Clone Wars

I watched some Clone Wars this weekend, as well. I’m so close to finishing season five! I’m in a weird place with watching anything recently, opting for YouTube binges (typically of planners and soap) instead. So it felt good to get back to watching a few episodes. It’s been exciting to watch, but almost bittersweet because I know I’m essentially two seasons (or about 20-something episodes) from finishing it once I’m done with this season.

Monster Prom

This weekend, however, was dedicated mostly to Monster Prom! I played so much Monster Prom. So much. So very much. Hours upon hours. It was so much damn fun. Even when I was getting rejected for dates, it was fun. I played a bunch of it online with Manthing as well. I know I was playing it with the intention of just the hearts and didn’t think about what areas on campus gave which stats (and how they might apply to securing a date). Once we figured that out, it made things go much smoother (as did finding a few guides to use when we felt stuck after our first few runs).

I honestly don’t know what to say about the game at the moment, other than I absolutely love it and that I have never laughed so hard at a game before. While playing with Manthing, I was romancing Damien, and ended up sitting at the lunch table with the Coach and Scott. I set off some fireworks to make them go away, and the reaction from coach, was, well… a picture is worth a thousand words. I think Manthing secretly got annoyed that I couldn’t stop laughing for about five minutes straight. I was laughing so hard that no sound was coming out at one point.

I am looking forward to playing more of this with Manthing on date night tomorrow, and maybe hopefully some more this weekend. I also plan to play some myself once I’m done with a big project milestone for day job this week. That’s my motivation: dating Monsters.

Seriously Geeky Sundays: Families https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/05/10/seriously-geeky-sundays-families/ https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/05/10/seriously-geeky-sundays-families/#comments Sun, 10 May 2020 15:30:00 +0000 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/?p=1561 Seriously Geeky Sundays

Another week, another Seriously Geeky Sundays prompt! Seriously Geeky Sundays is hosted by Heather of Just Geeking By. This week’s prompt is a tribute to Mother’s Day in the US, with a focus on geeky families. Be sure to check out the rest of May’s prompts if you’re interested in joining!

Families

Who is your favorite family?

This was an extremely difficult question to answer. I have a lot of families I enjoy. The Gilmores, the Spellmans, the Siskos… but I finally decided that my favorite family would have to be Joyce and Buffy Summers (and later Dawn, who grew on me eventually). I love the dynamic the two of them have, and the growth they both go through on the show… and it is still shattering to watch that specific episode where everything comes crashing down.

Who is your favorite unconventional family?

I keep waffling between the Gilmores and the Spellmans on this one, but I finally had to go with the original 90s Sabrina the Teenage Witch. I’ve yet to watch more than the first few episodes of the newer Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but I do enjoy their dichotomy so far as well. The 90s Sabrina had a huge impact on me as a kid, and since I didn’t watch a lot of television, it’s one of the first times I remember seeing an unconventional family (after Jake and Ben Sisko, of course). You know, once I finish Stargate and Star Wars, I may need to yoink Manthing’s Hulu login for seven seasons of Sabrina…

Which off-screen/non-played family member would like to learn more about?

I honestly can’t think of any media I’ve consumed where the family had a specifically off-screen member, and Googling hasn’t been much help in answering this question, either. So I’m just looking forward to seeing what other folks have answered for this question.

Who is/are your favorite grandparents?

Beyond my own late grandparents? Well, need I say more than post this image?

What extended family/legacy is your favorite?

Again, a picture is worth a thousand words, here. I haven’t watched the movie in a while (and have yet to watch the second one), but I very much enjoy the quirky extended family in My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Plus, it’s just so quoteable!

Take the main characters from your last five shows/movies/games/books (etc.) and create a family with them.

I’ve been watching a lot of ensemble cast television shows, so it’s been difficult to choose a main character. Therefore, I compromised a bit on the question. I use two television shows (Star Wars: Clone Wars and Stargate SG-1), and chose some characters that I would consider “main”. From Clone Wars, we have Ahsoka, Anakin, and Obi-Wan. Even though I’m no longer in seasons with O’Neill, I decided to pick O’Neill and Carter, because they really do deserve to love each other like they want to. My family layout would have Jack and Samantha as the parents, and Ahsoka as their daughter. Obi-Wan would be the Uncle, and Anakin would be Ahsoka’s older cousin that’s almost like her brother.

Games to Tackle in 2020 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/05/09/games-to-tackle-in-2020/ https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/05/09/games-to-tackle-in-2020/#comments Sat, 09 May 2020 16:15:16 +0000 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/?p=1482 Ten Games to Tackle

At the end of last year, Krikket of Nerd Girl Thoughts put together a list of ten games she wanted to tackle in 2020. I stumbled my way onto this post when she updated how she’s been doing with her endeavor in a blog post during Blapril, and I liked the idea, so I thought I’d try to come up with a shorter list of my own five to six games I’d love to knock off of my to-be-played list (or rather, technically, my massive Steam library) before the end of this year.

This might be a bit difficult, however, because I can be quite an achievement hoarder if I’m enjoying a game. I also play a lot of games with multiple endings/paths (*cough*otome*cough*), so I spend a lot of time going down those rabbit holes, as well. So this could go one of two ways: smoothly and carefree, or never actually finishing anything. I am shamelessly yoinking Krikket’s idea of both checking the average time to beat (I’m using a scale of “completion to full achievements”), and noting how much she spent on the game and when she obtained it.

I’m going to try to be flexible with myself, and see how I’m feeling once I come to what folks would call the “end” of the games, and evaluate if I’d like to explore more of it, or if I can put it down and call it a day. So then, what games do I choose to check off this year…

My Games to Tackle in 2020

I hope your feed reader can handle tables, because it was the easiest way for me to organize everything and get the images to work correctly (all my HTML-for-fun in middle and high school has paid off in life). If not, you may need to click through to the post itself.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Justice for All

Time to beat: 18-21 hours // Purchased late 2007 for $24.99

Okay, this might be a tad “cheaty” since I’m already working my way through it, but I’ve had the dang thing since it came out on the DS in America and I’d really like to tackle it. As I mentioned in another post, I’m using a guide to work my way through it, and I don’t think I’ll be doing anything completionist with it, mainly because the DS version doesn’t have any achievements to go with it.

Sweet Fuse: At Your Side

Time to beat: 9-25 hours // Purchased September 2016 for $9.99

This one might also be a bit “cheaty” since I’ve already played some of the routes. I’m on my way to completionist this one (as I do with most otome), and I’d like to finally finish it.

Life is Strange (Episodes 2-5)

Time to beat: 14-18 hours // Purchased Ep.1 December 2015 for $2.49, Gifted Ep. 2-5 in 2018

This is yet another game that I’m only partially through. I played episode 1 on Twitch in 2018, but never played any more after that (mainly due to jerks in chat trying to spoil). I’d very much like to finish it, and I’ve been thinking of putting the playthroughs on YouTube. I’m not sure yet whether I will just finish the story or completionist it.

The Longest Journey

Time to beat: 17-21 hours // Purchased January 2016 for approx $4.99

I love Funcom games. They’re just so good with narrative, regardless of what they’re doing. So I’d very much like to start the Dreamfall Trilogy, finally! I contemplated adding the other two games (Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, and Dreamfall Chapters) to my list, but I don’t think I will quite yet. Maybe I’ll make them stretch goals, or prioritize the games to play with The Longest Journey last for the year so I can jump into the other two after this one is finished.

OZMAFIA!!

Time to beat: 22-40 hours // Purchased April 2016 for $29.74

I was adamant that I needed this game when it came out on Steam, so I picked it up… and then never played it. I do know why I never did (ex), but I’m going to rectify that now, and finally tackle it this year! It’s an otome, so I’ll completionist it. I have to—there’s CGs to collect, achievements to earn, and stories to unlock!

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Time to beat: 29-46 hours // Purchased February 2015 in the Star Wars Humble Bundle ($12.00)

Gosh, I picked this bundle up five years ago, and while I don’t know that I’ll ever play all of the games it included, I have been told time and again that this (and KotOR 2) are worth my time. I’ve been in a Star Wars kick as of late, working my way through the movie/tv chronology, so I figured why not finally give this a whirl. Will I completionist it? Not entirely sure, yet. I’ll need to see what I think of the game, first.

Stretch Goals

Assuming I work my way through all of these since they fall within the 18-40 hour range, I’d like to complete the following games.

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey

Time to beat: 12-14 hours // Purchased June 2018 for approx $7.29

Like I mentioned on Longest Journey, I’d very much like to complete the trilogy. Therefore I’m listing it out as a stretch goal!

Dreamfall Chapters: The Final Cut Edition

Time to beat: 21-37 hours // Purchased June 2018 for approx $7.29

Again, I’d very much like to finish the trilogy once I’ve started it!

Amnesia: Memories

Time to beat: 7-34 hours // Purchased December 2015 for approx $5.95

This is another otome I’ve been sitting on for a very long time, and I’d very much like to finally work my way through it. Plus I hear it’s kind of creepy, too, which I enjoy! I will do a completionist run, of course.

This is post 31/31 for Blapril. You can find out more and sign up at Belghast’s original post. You can view those participating on Twitter via the Twitter list I put together. Nogamara of Battlestance has put together an RSS feed of all Blapril participants.

Nerding Goals May 2020 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/05/02/nerding-goals-may-2020/ https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/05/02/nerding-goals-may-2020/#respond Sat, 02 May 2020 15:30:00 +0000 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/?p=1380 April Recap
Marketing Market Business Strategy
jmexclusives / Pixabay

I set myself what I thought were some pretty reasonable goals for April. How did I do? Fair to middling.

  • Inventory Management (ESO)
  • Pick up the last items I need for learning crafting traits (ESO)
  • Figure out where I left off in questing (ESO)
  • Complete current event quest (ESO)

I didn’t even touch ESO. I realized that I had missed my opportunity to get the boxes for the month, and I was so angry with myself that I’ve done nothing but make sure the game is updated. I’m going to give myself some time to get back into it this month outside of just logging in for daily rewards, so I’m going to copy these goals into May. Except I think I’m out of luck with the anniversary event quest, so I’ll be knocking that off the list. I did figure out I was in Grahtwood, though, so that’s something!

  • Start and complete Ace Attorney (Community Game-Along/Visual Novel)
  • Complete current route in Sweet Fuse (Otome)

I started Phoenix Wright, but I haven’t finished it yet. So that’s going to continue onto my goals for this month. I didn’t even touch my Vita this month. I think I am going to need to set myself to completing one game per month if it is not on the computer to give myself more time to experience things at my own pace. Stretch goal for May, however, if I finish Phoenix in decent time is to complete the route in Sweet Fuse, but I won’t be putting it on my goals list.

  • Complete five of the six Sunstone Volumes currently available in book format (Comics)
  • Complete Song in the Silence (Reading)
  • Complete one of the two books I am reading for my business (Reading)

Reading was interesting this month. It felt good to get back to something that I’ve loved so much prior in my life. Towards the end of April I did fall off the bandwagon of reading every night, which did contribute some to only reading one Sunstone volume, so I’m going to try to get back to that. I found that on nights I read before bed, I slept better overall. I did complete Song in the Silence and I’m currently 39% though the second book in the series, The Lesser Kindred. Knowing that I’ve gobbled up a novel and a half this month (almost 600 pages!), I’m going to update my pleasure-reading goals, some for May.

I also have to note that I’m kind of excited to be reading a series that I both know, and don’t. I’ve finally hit a point in the second book where I’m not necessarily remembering everything that’s going on, which means I’m finally getting to a point in the series that I’ve never made it past before. (CW: ABUSE – My ex was jealous that my best friend (then male-identifying) purchased me the third book in the trilogy, so he’d be emotionally abusive about reading, which is one of the big reasons I, well, stopped.)

I have yet to finish either book I’m reading for business, but I’ve been trying to catch-up on some admin things with my business, and get ahead with other admin things, so I unfortunately put reading and professional development on the back burner. They’re also not necessarily books that are a good relax-before-bed option, as they’re very much geared towards, well, improving my business.

I gobbled up a bunch of Stargate, and am tip-toeing into the next season of Clone Wars, so these will continue for goals in May as well! However, I’m going to need to carefully choose my Stargate goals, as I’ve hit a point in the chronology where I do a lot of jumping between series.

May Goals

  • Inventory Management (ESO)
  • Pick up the last items I need for learning crafting traits (ESO)
  • Do a few quests in Grahtwood (ESO)

  • Complete Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 of Sunstone (Comics)

Currently Nerding April 2020 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/04/30/currently-nerding-april-2020/ https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/04/30/currently-nerding-april-2020/#comments Thu, 30 Apr 2020 15:30:00 +0000 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/?p=1356 Inspiration

At the start of April, Bel posted about some games he was regularly playing, and it inspired me to try something similar. Except, I’m not playing a bunch of games, lately. I’m nerding out over different things, though, so I figured in line with my goals now being called “Nerding Goals” instead of “Gaming Goals”, that this wrap-up of the month would be best to be named similarly.

These wrap ups may or may not cover things that are in my goals for the month. Sometimes, things just hit me differently during the month for whatever reason, and I’d still like to talk about them, but it’s not enough for a full-blown post itself.

Currently Nerding: April 2020

Star Wars: Clone Wars

One of my goals for this month was to try and finish season four of Clone Wars, which I’ve done, and have started working my way into season five. The end of season four blew my mind, and got me so pumped up! I know it’s been out for “forever” at this point, but I’ve never watched it until now, and I appreciate that folks are shying away from spoilers for me. I’m looking forward to what season five brings, though I’m a bit sad knowing that I’m getting close to the end.

Stargate

[SPOILERS IN FAN TRAILER] I wrote about how I finished up Stargate season nine (which was also part of my goals list), but I have also made it all the way through Stargate Atlantis season two, and into season three. I’ve hit a point in my chronology where things will start to get a little wonky (e.g.: After I finish SGA 3.4, I jump back to SG-1 for 10.3-10.12, then back to SGA, then…), so I’m going to have to think about what I want to tackle for my goals for next month in regards to Stargate, soon.

Soap Packing Videos

I couldn’t tell you why I’ve been nerding out about this, but it’s so relaxing to me. They’re sort of vlog-like, but they also show off neat products, and are a behind-the-scenes sort of look at soapers and what they do for taking care of their customers. I’m especially loving Missouri River Soaps for her packing videos, and I’m looking for more soap channels that do the same.

Nail Polish!

I’m trying to get better about doing my nails weekly to help them grow and keep them strong, but I’ve been holding off because I just hate what nail polish remover (even the acetone-free one) does to them. So I’ve been working my way through Simply Nailogical’s videos on YouTube, and have found a few about growing out nails and keeping them healthy. So now I’m waiting for a few nail supplies to come in (peel-off base coat means no nail polish remover!) so I can start taking better care of my nails and cuticles.

I also have dermatillomania, and the biggest thing I do is pick at my cuticles and skin on my fingers until I am bleeding. I’ve noticed when I wear nail polish I do this much less frequently, so I’m also aching to get back to wearing polish because my skin is pretty intense looking with all the stress thanks to the current world situation. I’m also lusting over some Holo Taco products right now, but will have to wait until my next paycheck to think about picking them up.

Statistical Which Character Personality Quiz https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/04/22/statistical-which-character-personality-quiz/ https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/04/22/statistical-which-character-personality-quiz/#respond Wed, 22 Apr 2020 14:00:00 +0000 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/?p=1392 Full Results

I first saw this floating around Facebook, but didn’t pay much mind to it until I saw it floating around the blogosphere. Endalia was kind enough to link it in the Blaugust Discord, so I saved it for a rainy day. Today is that rainy day.

You can take the personality test for yourself here. You can find my full results here. I’m only going to post my top 10 from the full results, and then dive into some of my favorite fandoms!

  1. Willow Rosenberg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer): 79%
  2. Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter): 75%
  3. Donna Moss (The West Wing): 75%
  4. Kaylee Frye (Firefly + Serenity): 75%
  5. Alice Cullen (Twilight): 75%
  6. Daniel Jackson (Stargate SG-1): 74%
  7. Rachel Chu (Crazy Rich Asians): 73%
  8. Abby Sciuto (NCIS): 73%
  9. Samwell Tarly (Game of Thrones): 72%
  10. Pam Beesly (The Office): 72%

I’m sad that certain fandoms aren’t in the top ten, but I’m going to see what my percentages look like as we delve into them specifically… in alphabetical order. Though, I’m confused why some fandoms show up in the big list (e.g.: NCIS, Stargate SG-1), but don’t show up in the Universe drop down.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

  1. Willow Rosenberg: 79%
  2. Rupert Giles: 65%
  3. Buffy Summers: 58%
  4. Xander Harris: 55%
  5. Angel: 47%

Willow was always my favorite character in Buffy, with Cordelia as a close second, so I’m happy that she ended up being my highest in Buffy, and I suppose overall, as well. But ugh, Xander. At least it’s only 55%.

Firefly + Serenity

  1. Kaylee Frye: 75%
  2. Hoban Washburne: 71%
  3. Inara Serra: 69%
  4. Derrial Book: 67%
  5. River Tam: 59%

Kaylee and Inara were always characters I identified with the most in Firefly. I love all the characters, but I very much gravitate towards Kaylee as someone I could see myself being. So I feel it’s fairly accurate!

Harry Potter

  1. Luna Lovegood: 75%
  2. Ginny Weasley: 69%
  3. Arthur Weasley: 68%
  4. Remus Lupin: 66%
  5. Nymphadora Tonks: 66%

Okay, Luna is just so underappreciated! Everyone goes off about how she’s so odd and naive, and she’s really not. Neville and Luna were always my favorite Harry Potter characters (I mean, I appreciate the main trio, but, eh), so I’m glad I got Luna… because that means I get Mr. Sexy Herbologist.

Star Trek: Deep Space 9

  1. Jadzia Dax: 69%
  2. Julian Bashir: 69%
  3. Kasidy Yates: 69%
  4. Jake Sisko: 68%
  5. Nog: 64%

Deep Space Nine is absolutely my favorite Trek. I love many characters, but I don’t know that I could pick a favorite (okay, I lie, it’s Elim). Despite loving the series and characters (minus the rush that was Season 7), I’ve never particularly identified closely with any of them. Dax is definitely up there as a favorite, though, so I’ll take it!

Twin Peaks

  1. Dale Cooper: 71%
  2. Norma Jennings: 68%
  3. Lucy Moran: 68%
  4. Shelly Johnson: 64%
  5. Pete Martell: 60%

While I would be classified as “too young” to appreciate Twin Peaks, it has swiftly become one of my favorite fandoms. I think it’s the one thing that has remained of the fandoms my ex-husband introduced me to. It was not the first David Lynch work I’d seen, but it gave me a much better appreciation and understanding of how he works as a whole. Plus, you just can’t say no to the quirky cast, and occult undertones. I will wear with pride all of the names I was given, even if they all have their own weird flaws.

The West Wing

  1. Donna Moss: 75%
  2. Charlie Young: 71%
  3. Sam Seaborn: 69%
  4. Joey Lucas: 67%
  5. C.J. Cregg: 66%

The West Wing is probably my biggest go-to show when I’m struggling emotionally. It’s one of the few television shows I grew up watching (along with DS9) in full, and being able to binge it on Netflix multiple times the past year has been a help when I needed something to get me through the depression rut I was stuck in. It’s also one of the things Manthing and I love to watch and share. He’s told me many times that I remind him of dear Donnatella, so I wear it with pride that I got her as a top result, as well.

Nerding Goals April 2020 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/04/08/nerding-goals-april-2020/ https://gamergirlconfessions.com/2020/04/08/nerding-goals-april-2020/#comments Wed, 08 Apr 2020 13:03:39 +0000 https://gamergirlconfessions.com/?p=1290 Gaming Goals
Sometimes I wish the Augur could narrate my life.

Like many games bloggers out there, I’ve been noting my gaming goals for a while (I was surprised to see it went as far back as when I started this blog… so much has changed but some things remain, it seems). Then in August of last year I changed up the format of how I’d be doing them.

Normally I’d be keen to come up with some gaming goals. However, I’m not at a place where I’ve been doing a lot of gaming. And it’s been that way for a while. Which puts me at a loss to what I even want to tackle outside of a few select gaming things to ease me back into gaming for both fun and content creation.

April Nerding Goals

I decided to change it up—again. I’m going to start calling them Nerding Goals, and include other various geeky and nerdy pursuits, like visual and written media consumption.

Some of these goals may seem simple to you, but some link back to what Roger over at Contains Moderate Peril has deemed as “gaming amnesia“. Not just that, but depression screws with one’s memory, and I am at a disadvantage for picking up content I was in the middle of ages ago. The bright side of this being my brain is having an easier time remembering current media, so it should make things going forward a lot easier to come back to, and to complete.

Anyways, without further ado, here’s my list for April in no particular order.

  • Inventory Management (ESO)
  • Pick up the last items I need for learning crafting traits (ESO)
  • Figure out where I left off in questing (ESO)
  • Complete current event quest (ESO)
  • Start and complete Ace Attorney (Community Game-Along/Visual Novel)
  • Complete five of the six Sunstone Volumes currently available in book format (Comics)
  • Complete current route in Sweet Fuse (Otome)
  • Complete Song in the Silence (Reading)
  • Complete one of the two books I am reading for my business (Reading)
  • Complete Season 9 of Stargate SG-1
  • Complete Season 4 of Star Wars: Clone Wars
