I’m Surprised, but I Missed FFXIV

It Brings Me Joy

For a long time no MMO has brought me any degree of happiness, and I’m not sure why. To be fair, I’m sure there are plenty of reasons why, but I don’t really want to dive into figuring them out at the current moment. But I honestly forgot how much I enjoyed MMOs. Just the silly little things that happen around the world thanks to the plethora of other players.

For instance, I was standing around in Limsa trying to pick up some gear to raise my item level to get into Castrum Meridianum for the first time, and a Bard was standing around just playing Blink-182’s “First Date”. It made me laugh, smile, and sing-along, which I haven’t done in a game in a while.

MSQ Zerg

For the first time ever in my time playing FFXIV, I made it through the MSQ for the base game! I’m pretty sure it’s due to the changes made to the MSQ to be friendlier to newer players. So now I’m working my way through all of the Seventh Astral Era (pre-Heavensward) quests for the first time ever. They’re… okay. I’m looking forward to finally making my way to Heavensward for the first time ever.

Unlocks Ahoy

I’ve also been spending a lot of time unlocking various classes and features in the game. I didn’t realize how many things were available to unlock, but once Stargrace clued me in that there was a specific type of quest icon to unlock things, I went to town. I think it’s going to have to be the thing I do during the week if I decide to play FFXIV over DBD because I’m just so back-and-forth with other things.

One of the unlocks I unexpectedly ran into was blue mage. And it was… extremely heavy on the cultural appropriation. It also felt like such a joke with no purpose. Granted, I’ve never played any Final Fantasy game outside of XIV, so maybe there’s some sort of connection to other games and the quest had some sort of perspective I missed? But still, I didn’t like the appropriation. I’ve unlocked it, but I think it’ll be the last class I unlock, if I unlock it at all. What I really want is Dancer… I should probably look into how to obtain that.
