To the Crystal Tower

Labyrinths of the Ancients

I am steadily making my way through the FFXIV MSQ in A Real Reborn, though I’m aggravated finding out that three quests away from Heavensward I have to do all of Crystal Tower. I mean, I’m okay with doing it, because it’s more story, but it was irksome to find out I actually had more quests to do than I thought I did.

Labyrinth was my first time doing a raid in FFXIV, and I enjoyed the mechanics! I especially liked that I was able to just queue up and do it. I enjoyed the story through this point, though I still think NOAH is a silly name and feels pulled out of the blue, despite having supposed lore connections.

Syrcus Tower

Being introduced to Unei and Doga was so freaking convenient. They just showed up out of the blue and solved our problems! I was… kind of annoyed with that fact. It very much made me to an unamused face. Convenient plot devices always bother me, even if I’m enjoying the story overall.

Syrcus ended up being a bit more difficult than Labyrinth, but I think that was mainly due to veteran players not telling us sprouts (even after asking) the one-sentence explanations. Also, why is Nero here, and why is he so damned hot?

The World of Darkness

Was this place designed by White Wolf? (Har har, I made a LARP joke. Aren’t I funny?) Based on the name of this raid I was hoping for more… cosmic horror elements. But overall it was still enjoyable! About as difficult as Syrcus since there were really no explanations.

Crystal Tower Story Finale

The overall ending of the Crystal Tower series was wholly unsatisfying. It just felt… tacked on? He locks himself away for forever because… well, it didn’t really make sense. But it has been alluded to by some tweeples that Crystal Tower plays a part in Shadowbringers, so I’m hoping to get some closure over the whole thing sooner rather than later.

Gods, why is Nero such a hottie?
