Yardcore Nexus | Episode 9 – Slade Frackwell

Frackwell was kind enough to offer to volunteer as tribute (back in September!) for Yardcore Nexus, where I tour a plot in WildStar and interview the creator!

Wildcast Podcast Ep. 78

If this title seems familiar, it’s because, well, I’ve used it before… sorta. I hopped onto Episode 77 of Wildcast to discuss ThaydFest, as I linked to in my November Gaming Review post, where I talked a lot about what I’d done relating to my goals, oddly enough.

Wildcast Ep. 78: Winterfest is Here!

And I’m excited to say that I’m back again on Episode 78… as the third official co-host for the podcast! So if you’re into Wildstar, check us out! This episode we talk about Winterfest, cash shop pricing, and more. Next episode will be out on January 15th, so keep your ears out, and I’ll be posting a link to it on the blog, as well.

IntPiPoMo List Update

A couple of changes and additions have been made to the IntPiPoMo list, so here’s the current list! Be sure to let me know via Twitter, or on this post if you plan to participate! ^_^

Pizza Maid also put together this pretty awesome guide to taking screenshots in FFXIV that could also be applicable to many other games. Starshadow has another great one for screenshots in general, so be sure to check them out if you’re looking for tips or ideas!

Let’s Play!

The second Let’s Play for The Secret World is now up! Short term goal is to get episode 3 started in the next few days, and maybe finishing it by the end of the week. It gets easier to do them as I go, so hopefully I’ll fall into a routine.

Yardcore

Speaking of videos, I am almost done putting together the last Yardcore from before F2P drop. A lot of folks I’ve done Yardcore with previously have updated their plots, such as Green Ghost (who now has a Twitter account if you’re interested in following him!), so I’m not sure if I’ll start with visiting updated plots for the post-F2P updates, or mix them up with new folks… we’ll see who jumps at the opportunity to go next first.

The next episode was actually a lot of fun for me to record. It’ll be on Slade Frackwell’s plot, who happened to be someone that opened my eyes to the wonders of housing, and someone who is always there to help out folks in Housing with ideas and the like.

WildStar

Lots been going on in WildStar, but most of it is related to guild master duties, or ThaydFest. So I guess I’ll just pimp ThaydFest! This is an Entity Exile event that the guild hosts, and we’re already on ThaydFest 3!

ThaydFest is the biggest, baddest, most awesome event our server has ever seen (yet)! It’s a day full of awesome, a chance for you and your friends and your guild to log on and do something fun and different and experience the best part of Wildstar–the community. It is an event brought to you by your fellow players, and done entirely with the resources that the game gives us, and our own ingenuity. No matter what aspects of the game you enjoy, ThaydFest probably has something fun for you to do.

ThaydFest is coordinated by the Black Dagger Society and other community-oriented guilds and players on our server. We’re doing this because we recognize that the community is a huge part of what makes the game so awesome, and this is our way of giving something back to that same community. We hope that you’ll come out, have a great time, and maybe make some friends.

So if you’re in WildStar, check it out! Everyone is able to roll up a toon on Entity, assuming they have the character slots, so come join the fun! Carbine was even kind enough to donate some codes as prizes, so there’s that, too… And there’s more information using that nice little URL and we’re always looking for prize donations!

FFXIV

We’ve been playing a lot of FFXIV, mainly because Chaide is kind of over WildStar (until they make some changes). So it’s become his game-of-choice when we don’t want to schedule in some TSW. I’ve just been super busy with work, interviewing for new positions, and then social obligations on the weekends that I haven’t been able to write much about it.

But the cool thing is that a lot of what we’ve done in the game is easily written about after the fact, including the Hallow’s End stuff. So there will be lots of posts utilizing lots of screenshots for IntPiPoMo in the next few days!

Due to real-life, this took approximately two months to put together. While I don’t mind that folks would prefer not to speak in TeamSpeak, it really does make things easier on my end to showcase their plots. It also didn’t help that life got the better of me for a few months, either. My new goal for Yardcore videos is to complete one per month. If I get more done, that’s grand! But I’m not going to beat myself up for doing something only once per month that I’m doing because it’s enjoyable. Once it starts becoming unenjoyable, there’s no point, eh?

Gaming Goals Review: June

Gaming Goals Review: June

So, I started something new at the beginning of this month where I decided to set some gaming goals for myself and then see how I did with them, because I’ve much less time than I’d like with real life cropping up and all that jazz. So, let’s review how I did with them!

WildStar Goals

  • Reach the max tier of both the PvP and PvE contracts by the end of the month (I still have yet to max them since they came out)
  • Max my rep in the Crimson Badlands and Northern Wastes (The first two daily areas. And no, I still haven’t finished maxing the reps.)
  • Finish out my PvP DPS set (purples)
  • Finish runing my PvE Tank and DPS sets (I need to stop putting this off, as now I’m starting to use it as an excuse to not run content)
  • Take care of my massive list of guild management-related items (Good thing we have Officers to help delegate!)
  • Find some more folks for Yardcore Nexus and have a video for every week this month
  • BONUS: Finish filling out my Outfitter tree
  • BONUS: Complete Attunement
  • BONUS: First Raid!

FFXIV Goals

Cactuar

  • Reach level 20 MIN
  • Reach level 10 CUL
  • Reach level 10 ALC
  • Reach 35 MRD
  • Reach 30 GLA

Lamia

  • Reach level 15
  • Run some dungeons with Tal and Chaide!

SWTOR Goals

TSW

Torchlight

  • Play some more to get past the first few quests
  • Start getting LP videos up on the blog

My Thoughts

Let’s tackle my thoughts by game, shall we?

I had a lot of WildStar goals I got really close to–I have an almost complete set of purple PvP gear (DPS), and I’m almost maxed with both original daily reps. I’m also very close to maxing out my contracts. I completed runing my DPS set, and was almost done with my tank set until I got a new piece. So now I’m stuck re-runing again. Which is a tad of a pain, but worth it for the upgrade I got.

I got through a massive back-log of guild-related items, and just have one more left that I plan on taking care of this weekend (does Lifestyles of Nexus ring a bell to anybody? 😉 ). Due to real-life, I cut back on my Yardcore schedule. However, I did put up Episodes 56, and 7.

I didn’t get to Outfitting because things are buggy. So instead, I just reported a lot of outfitting bugs. I’m sure if I keep poking them they’ll get fixed, like a few of my Cooking bugs, did. I got two “bonus” items as well. I ended up finishing attunement and getting in on my first raid in WildStar, even though they weren’t original goals.

I’ve been spending a lot of time in WildStar, so I didn’t get close to any of my FFXIV goals. So they will more than likely remain the same for next month. We shall see. I’m enjoying it, but my time is spread thin with the move, lately. So it’s been more of a “What can we do together with the limited time we have and smash faces?”.

I got close to a bunch of my SWTOR goals. I even logged at about level 21 last time I was on. However, I’m not really enjoying SWTOR as much as I am TSW and FFXIV. So priorities might change, depending on my mood. Chaide, however, is loving SWTOR way more than I am, so I might still end up there on occasion with him when he wants to play his Bounty Hunter.

As I said, I’ve been enjoying TSW way more than SWTOR. So you might see some more goals up. However, it’s a little harder to determine goals there, because, well, there’s no levels. While I didn’t get any videos up on the blog this month, I’ve been working on the video layout and converting the hours of gameplay we’ve recorded into a format my program will read. So maybe in July I’ll get one or two videos up!

Torchlight. Well… I just haven’t had the desire to make videos. So uh. We’ll see if they stay on the list or not.

Overall, I think I did a pretty decent job laying out goals and reaching them. I do think, however, I may need to be a bit more realistic with them based on my play time for this past month, and the real-life stresses I know are coming this coming month.

Expect a post in the next day or so laying out my goals for July. July may be a little slim considering we’ll be traveling for a full week, as well as prepping to move as our slum apartment complex was bought out by the city and we get to move earlier than our lease is up (yay!).

Estates, Lighthouses, and Amusement Parks

Yardcore Nexus

While Saturday was chores and WildStar raiding, Sunday was a bit more laid back. There was more chores (of course), but we got in some solid gaming time, too. I also decided (as I put together a Yardcore video) that for me to continue enjoying to put out and enjoy putting out Yardcore Nexus, I’m going to have to scale them back to every-other week or so. And not get stressed if real life comes up and delays an episode a week. So, look for Episode 7 later today!
I also watched the STOS stream this weekend with Caydiem, but I’m saving thoughts on some of that information (and some other F2P information released last week) for tomorrow or Wednesday, after STOS puts out their YouTube version so I can link it.

Lord Grathan

We decided to hop into SWTOR while we waited for our friend Cam so we could play some Secret World. We headed over to where we would pick up some quests for Lord Grathan’s place.

Even amongst the Empire, most folks think Grathan is kind of, well, crazy. Sarnova (aka Duchess) has been sending troops into Grathan’s Estate, but they haven’t reported back–they’ve gone missing. Doesn’t bode well for them.

On the bridge headed over, we ran into Bryn, who was looking for some plans to some turrets. Being a dedicated Imperial Agent, I was more than willing to bring them to him. He also had the best quote, albeit somewhat foreboding, as mad scientists are never a good thing: “Grathan’s trouble, see. Big trouble. Mad scientist type. Likes weapons. Cyborgs. Droids. Ergonomic chairs.”

We made it into his Estate, killed some guards, and found that Duchess’ troops have been turned into… cyborgs? It was actually really quite creepy and reminded me a bunch of the Cybermen in Doctor Who. I even teared up a little bit.

We also ran across Ismar, who is an indentured scientist and resentful of the position, who wants to steal plans in cybernetics that Grathan has been working on, and sell it to the highest bidder… providing us a 60% cut, of course.

So we decided to venture into Grathan’s Estate and attempt to steal the Mask of Revan for the Revanite clan. We ended up summoning some lackies, but disposed of them with ease.

At this point, Cam was ready to play some Secret World, so we switched over to play. I’m excited to get past this point, because this is the last thing I remember from when we first played at release.

The Lighthouse and the Amusement Park

We spent a good chunk of time in Secret World starting and finishing the Lighthouse quests, and finishing up the Amusement Park quests. Again, this is about where we left off when we first played Secret World at launch. Actually, come to think of it, we did one or two quests over at Miskatonic University Innsmouth Academy.

I’ve been having issues with my screen shots as well, randomly. F11 wasn’t working, so I switched to PrtScrn. And now PrtScrn isn’t working, and switching back to F11 isn’t helping. Does OBS fiddle with this? I hope not. Anybody have any solutions?

Some days I really regret not taking advantage of the opportunity to have a Legacy account, or whatever it’s called. I’m enjoying Secret World much more than I am Star Wars. Though I have to wonder why, because the immersion and lore in both games are completely up my alley. Maybe after we get through all the content in SWTOR, I’ll switch my sub over to TSW instead. I’m really excited for the anniversary coming up in July, and I’m crossing my fingers I get a Scooby Bike! But, more on that in another post.
