    Meeting with the Resistance

Newbie Blogger Initiative Yesterday marked the first day of May, and therefore, the first day of the Newbie Blogger Initiative for 2015. What is NBI? Well, Belghast did a really great write-up of what it is and why you should participate in it over at MMOGames, so check that out! What does it mean for the blog? Well, it means that I’ll hopefully be posting a bit more. Especially since Murf at Murf Versus has come up with a, well, challenge, essentially, called the #NBI2015Safari that I’m looking forward to participating in. I do have to say that completing NBI may be a bit of a challenge for me this month,…

    Faffing About

Last night Chaide and I got in a little bit of Final Fantasy, which I was very excited to do. Due to mainly a WildStar filled week, we don’t get much time for FFXIV or TSW as we would like. We have set aside some weekend time to TSW so long as our third (Camara) is online–but he’s had a very odd work schedule as of late with lots of travel, including some overseas, so we’ve been holding off on leveling without him. I did tell Chaide that I wanted to get into FFXIV more, especially while he’s working on things for school, so I’m hoping to get in and…

    The Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak

We got some more time in FFXIV this past weekend, and worked some more on our main story line. Our goal is to hit 30 in our first class, and then pick up our secondary class and level it to 30. So Chaide will be picking up Conjurer (he’s already an Arcanist) and I will be picking up Gladiator. We’ll work on side quests out in Gridania until we hit 30 on them as well. Anyway, onto our adventures in Gridania! The Sylph of Gridania We were sent over to Gridania with Papalymo and Yda to speak with the Twin Adders and meet with the Sylph to make sure that…

    Favorite MMO Fantasy Setting

Today at Massively OP, the Daily Grind asked what your favorite MMO fantasy setting is. For me, it’s three different games. I am not classifying WildStar as a fantasy, as I much more see it as sci-fi than fantasy. World of Warcraft While I no longer play WoW, I’ve always loved the Outlands. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s when I first really got into the game (so it’s nostalgia) or because it’s just that great of a map. Or both. My favorite zone within the Outlands was probably Nagrand, with Zangarmarsh as a very close second. The zones just felt so expansive and full of life. Final Fantasy XIV Every zone…

    Chocobo Racing

This weekend, Chaide and I played a bit in the Manderville Saucer. I loved the mini-games, but didn’t bother with the Triple Triad table. Maybe I will try a game sometime this week and see if I like it or not. I’m not the best at card games, so I’m kind of hesitant. Off to the Races The one thing I was looking forward to the most at the saucer was the Chocobo Racing. And I found out I kind of suck at it. Most of the time I ended up in eighth place. I did win once, but I call it luck based on how terrible I was doing…

    Developer Appreciation Week 2015

Today marks the final day of Developer Appreciation Week for 2015. Lots of folks around the blogosphere have been thanking Developers in games that have made a difference in their life (even a small one) left and right. While there have been many games I’ve played that have made a difference in my life, whether they be console, handheld, or one-shot computer games, I would like to specifically thank the MMO developers out there. Why? Belghast said it best: I have a hard time viewing these companies as the evil empires they are made out to be. No one sets out wanting to make a horrible product, and no one…

    Chocobos and Saucers

Last night, Chaide and I worked hard at grinding out company seals so we could try to get our Chocobos. It took a few hours, and some running around, but we finally got them!! We did it through FATEs and trying to kill a few things in our Hunting Log. Probably not the most optimal (nor fastest) solution, but with different Free Companies, we kind of wanted to do it together. Meet Topaz So named because eventually I will be feeding him (eventually) so he turns blue. He might not be the exact color of Topaz, possibly lighter, but I thought it was a fitting name for a blue Chocobo.…

    Grand Companies…Finally

The past two nights we’ve continued our quest to be part of a Grand Company! Primal Lore We began with a cut scene of Thancred being kind of emo, and some story regarding the Primals and tempering. Chaide commented that if they had to explain why they’re doing what they’re doing, and not reveal it to the public, is it really right? I have to hand it to him, it’s definitely something to consider. But at the same time, if we knew all that our government-of-choice knew, would it be best for everybody as a whole? More than likely not. Some people would be able to handle it, and some…

    Ifrit

Some of Saturday, and a good chunk of Sunday, Chaide and I spent time working on our main story line quests to unlock our mounts and Grand Companies. Scions of the Seventh Dawn We were sent off to meet with a singing Lalafel named Tataru who was absolutely adorable, and sent us down to meet the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, with Minfilia as the head. I took a lot of screenshots, so I won’t post them all, but it was a lot of fun learning some of the lore behind the Scions and how they were formed after the organizations in 1.0 disappeared with the rebirth of the game.…

    Dungeon Fun – Ding 22!

Note: It took me way longer to put this post together than anticipated–I started it on March 11th and got distracted by a lot of stuff for ThaydFest in WildStar, which I will post about soon! Last Wednesday, Chaide and I were able to get in a long session of some Final Fantasy! It was great! We signed on fairly early in the evening and worked on a few quests while we waited for Kodra and Belghast to sign online, as they had volunteered to help with our dungeons (so kind!). Chaide and I got kind of impatient and decided to overcome our fear of past PuG experiences and head…
